Compromise Agreements

Compromise agreements are used to bring certainty to the end of an employment relationship. Under a compromise agreement, an employee agrees to waive their right to bring claims in respect of their employment rights in exchange for a departure package from their employer.

In order for a compromise agreement to be binding, employees must get independent legal advice from a qualified lawyer before signing it. The lawyer will advise them on the claims they may be able to bring and on their rights and obligations under the compromise agreement. It is usual for the employer to make a contribution to the employee's legal costs in respect of this independent legal advice.

stevensdrake regularly provide independent legal advice to employees throughout Sussex and Surrey. We can provide independent legal advice to individual employees at our offices in Crawley. Alternatively, if employers are issuing a considerable number of compromise agreements, we can travel to the employer's premises anywhere in Sussex and Surrey to provide independent legal advice to a number of employees for a fixed daily or half-daily rate.
