Divorce Petition Fee to Rise

The latest consultation on court fees closed on 15th September. At present the court fee payable upon presentation of a petition for divorce is £410.  The original proposal by the government was that this should rise to £750 but the outcry this caused made the government withdraw that proposal.

However, it has now returned albeit somewhat diluted and it is likely that the fee on petitions will rise to £575, still a 40% increase.

Commenting, Peter Alison or Crawley based solicitors, stevensdrake, said: “If you are seriously considering divorce it may therefore be prudent to act sooner rather than later.”

Those on low incomes are reminded that fee remissions are available, either full or partial, for which see: http://hmctsformfinder.justice.gov.uk/courtfinder/forms/ex160a-eng.pdf
