Charging for our Services: Family Law

Our aim is to be as transparent as possible about the way in which we charge for our services.  With this in mind:

We offer an initial one-hour fixed fee consultation for £100 plus VAT (£120).

This consultation provides the opportunity for you to meet face to face with one of our solicitors at our offices for a discussion regarding your situation, your expectations and the legal options available to you.

We also offer a free 30-minute family law clinic every Tuesday in Horsham by appointment only.

We aim to provide you with the best advice of the likely costs at the outset and to work within an agreed budget where possible.

We will keep you regularly updated of any relevant developments as we go along.

We will advise you if we are able to claim a contribution to your costs from the other side.

You can contact Peter Alison (Head of our Family Law Team) to discuss further on 01293 596935.

Traditionally, lawyers charge for their services by reference to an hourly charge out rate, depending on the experience and seniority of the lawyer concerned.

Our rates +

Our team’s normal hourly charge out rates are currently £250 plus VAT for Peter Alison (Head of Department), £195 plus VAT for Kamal Vasdev (Assistant Solicitor), and from £125 plus VAT for our paralegals. Hourly charge out rates for other lawyers who may work on your matter will vary from £195 plus VAT for an assistant solicitor, to up to £375 plus VAT for a partner. We will set out and obtain your agreement to who in the team could be working on your matter and their rates in advance.

Disbursements

In addition to our fees, you will also pay any disbursements that are incurred as the matter progresses. “Disbursements” are costs related to your matter that are payable to third parties, such as barristers, and court fees. We will advise you of what disbursements will apply, and how much they will be, so you can budget for these as the case progresses. We will obtain the funds from you to enable us to pay them on your behalf (which ensures a smoother process).
